New High Income Threshold & Fair Work Information Statement

New High Income Threshold & Fair Work Information Statement

Following the decision by the Fair Work Commission to increase minimum wages by 2.4% on 1 July 2016, the High Income Threshold will now increase to $138,900 per annum.

An employee covered by the Fair Work Act earning more than the high income threshold is generally exempt from Awards and from unfair dismissal.

For a high income employee to be exempt from an Award, they must have a written guarantee of annual earnings which is more than the high income threshold.

The Fair Work Ombudsman has also issued an updated Fair Work Information Statement reflecting the increase in the High Income Threshold.

All new employees covered by the Fair Work Act must receive a copy of the Fair Work Information Statement from their employer on commencement of employment.
